No silver bullet — why we need human engineers
Everyone predicted AI would replace software engineers. A year into the surge the opposite happened, and papers from 1983 and 1986 explain why the translation between business goals and technical requirements is the part that did not automate.
You cannot skip the "boring" part before the flashy AI automation
Generative AI cannot answer what it has no access to, and that limit is structural rather than a bug waiting to be fixed. It is why collecting and storing your data properly still comes first.
Give me your problem, not a spec
I was hired as a company's first engineer before anyone knew what to build. Figuring that out is the job, and the answer is usually the foundation, not the flashy part.
